Former New York Rangers center and fan favorite Blair Betts was always a beast on the penalty killing side of the game for the Blueshirts and now with the Philadelphia Flyers that scenario hasn’t changed, according to Eye on Hockey at CBS Sports.
Betts, going into his third season with the rival Flyers, led the NHL this past season with 34% of his time on the ice being in situations when the Flyers were a man down. Todd Marchant of the Anaheim Ducks came in second place with 27%.
This is nothing new for Rangers fans to hear as Betts was always looked upon by former coach Tom Renney to help kill off penalties when the Blueshirts got themselves into trouble.
… not a shocker at all. Betts was huge on penalty killing for the Rangers and am happy to see he is still going at it but unfortunately for the Flyers.
I can’t believe Betts is going into his third season with the Flyers. It seems just like yesterday he was on the ice in a Rangers sweater.
Betts will always remain a favorite of mine even though he plays for the rival now because of his classiness and tenacity on the ice. He is the ultimate teammate that any team would love to have.
