Brandon Prust and the New York Rangers are still talking contract but according to Larry Brooks of the NY Post the team and Prust are not close to a new contract and there is a considerable gap in the negotiations that will more than likely see Prust testing free agent waters come July 1st.
Though sources stressed that lines of communication remain open and that it is conceivable that Prust could re-sign before July 1, it is believed the difference between the parties is significant — upward of $1 million over the life of a three-year contract.
… yes, I firmly believe Brandon Prust will be back with the New York Rangers for next season.
He is the quintessential John Tortorella player and Torts will not allow a player like Prust to leave his roster. Torts will push until Prust gets re-signed.
I think Prust leaving would be a huge hole to fill, no matter who they have waiting in the wings. No one will do what he does for the Rangers and that is the jobs on both sides of the puck. Prust does it and he does it damn good.
