Former New York Rangers defensemen Alexander Karpovtsev was on board the plane that crashed in Russia this morning killing the entire Lokomotiv
Yaroslavl team of the KHL, according to the Edmonton Journal.
Karpovtsev was 41.
The Russian defensemen helped the Rangers defeat the Vancouver Canucks in 1994 to capture their first Stanley Cup in 54 years.
UPDATE: Karpovtsev’s name was on the list of crash victims that was released earlier today after the crash.
… I just can’t believe it. Potsie was always huge for this Rangers club. A true gentle giant.
Our thoughts, prayers, condolences and hearts are with his family and friends as well as the rest of the family and friends affected by today’s terrible tragedy.
You guys will never be forgotten.
