New York Rangers’ Letter To Santa

With Christmas just around the corner it’s time for the Rangers to write a letter to Santa.

But as he always does Santa has to make sure who’s been naughty or nice.

Who’s been nice:

Chris Kreider- After being bounced around between the AHL and NHL last season, Kreider has found a permanent spot on the Rangers roster and he’s making the most of it. He’s on pace for 43 points on a team that ranks near the bottom of the league in scoring. Most importantly, Kreider is the only Ranger who is plus on the team at a plus-nine.

Mats Zuccarello- A player I am usually very critical of, Zucc has been great for the Rangers this season. He’s been able to provide a spark to the Rangers lineup and has 25 points, and he’s already eclipsed his career high. Even at 5’7, he is a big time player for the Rangers.

Cam Talbot- What a grab from the AHL Cam has been. With only one bad game so far this season, he has compiled a record of 7-2-0 with 2 shutouts. With Henrik Lundqvist not being so strong at the start of the season, he might be called on more often in the coming months.

Who’s been naughty:

Everybody else.

Alright, I guess I can’t leave it like that.

Derrick Brassard- He came over in the deal that saw Marion Gaborik pack his bags for Columbus. He had a strong finish to last season, but his start to this season has been back to the same old Brassard, inconsistent. With only 18 points thus far and a horrid minus 10, he will most likely be shopped around as the trade deadline comes closer. If he does make it out of the season with the Rangers, it’s highly doubtful he gets resigned.

Michael Del Zotto- It never seems to get better for Del Zotto. He has been dreadful so far this season, on offense and defense. He hasn’t found a consistent spot in the Rangers defensive rotations, but with injuries he has been basically forced to play. The Rangers might be better served moving Del Zotto while they can still manage to get something decent for him.

Henrik Lundqvist- I hate having to put him on this list, hate it. The man who has single-handedly carried the Rangers since he came into the league is having a uncharacteristically bad season for the Rangers. Injuries plagued him early on, but with a fresh contract, not much has changed for Hank. With a 10-15-2 record with a 2.77 GAA, Henrik is easily on pace for the worst season of his career.

Rangers Christmas wish list

Top-six forward

Milan Michalek
Evander Kane
Paul Stastny
Ales Hemsky

With the Rangers being at the bottom of the league in scoring they are going to have plenty of players on their radar. There are some good options out there for the Rangers to go after, and they do have the players to make some moves.

One or two more defenseman

Cody Franson
Jake Gardiner
Dmitry Kulikov
Rostislav Klesla

The defenseman market isn’t as deep but the Rangers could find some nice pieces that would better suit their lineup than they have now. Personally, I would like the Rangers to flip Del Zotto for one of those two defenseman from the Leafs.

Sporting News is also reporting that Glen Sather is being very active and looking for trade partners to shake his team up. With only Lundqvist, Nash, and Kreider being untouchables. This means there is a lot in play for the Rangers, but due to the holiday roster freeze we will have to wait at least a week before anything can happen. But knowing Sather, he will make at least one big move this season, if not multiple.

Even though they have been more naughty than nice, I think Santa is feeling a little more forgiving this year and he might just bring some big time presents to New York, even if they arrive a little after Christmas.

Although, at this point the Rangers will just be lucky if Santa doesn’t fill their stockings with reindeer droppings.
