New York Rangers Report Card: Right Wingers

We had a blast grading the center and left wingers. Nothing was better than the haters coming out to rip a part our grade for John Mitchell. Keep those comments coming!

Now it’s time to grade the Rangers right wingers.

So let’s start with the Captain…..

Ryan Callahan: Grade – A

Decker: The grade I gave Ryan Callahan is literally a no-brainer. The dude embodies resiliency and what it means to be a New York Ranger. He had a career-high in goals scored this season and just when many thought he wouldn’t go back to sacrificing his body after he had broken his leg off a Zdeno Chara slap shot the year before, he came right back out and didn’t miss a beat this season.

Marian Gaborik: Grade – A

Ragus: Yes, most people won’t like this grade for Marian Gaborik but he deserves it and for many reasons. Not only did Gaborik skate in all 82 games and all of the playoffs but he posted a solid 41 goals and 35 assists for 76 points. Gaborik showed, when healthy, he can be one of the best players in the game. Unfortunately, when not healthy and the news game after the loss that he wasn’t, Gaborik showed that he cannot help his team. But, he deserves a high grade for being one of the key parts that got the Rangers so far this season.

Brandon Prust: Grade – B

Miller: As head coach John Tortorella has noted, Prust is a “glue guy” on the roster and while not posting big scoring numbers he does a lot of the little things critical to winning games. His point total this year declined from 2011 (29 to 17) but he plays important minutes on the PK (3rd among F in SHTOI/Gm), he fights all comers (led club in PIM’s) and like nearly every other Ranger he blocks shots and hits (4th on the team among F in both categories).

Mats Zuccarello: Grade – D

NYRNation: In only 10 games with the Blueshirts Zucs managed to notch a couple of goals and showed he could be a key addition to the Rangers. Unfortunately, Zucs has left the NHL and signed with a team in the KHL. Our very own Michelle Schoeller was hoping Zucs would be a big part of next season’s team. He will not. Good luck with the Mettalurg Magnitogorsk Mats!

Next up we will take a look at the New York Rangers defensemen.
