In Monday’s loss against Toronto Anisimov’s goal at 13:00 in the second period sparked the Rangers to rally back from 3-0. While they still eventually lost the game 4-2, the spark was there now.
Then came the game on Thursday against Tampa Bay. Anisimov found himself again on the second line with Gaborik and Stepan. With the game tied 1-1 and the Rangers on the PK, Anisimov’s snap shot put the Rangers ahead at 13:23 in the second. Then, he sniped off a shot at the net again, using his imaginary sniper rifle. It was the shot heard ‘round the world. TB took great exception to his celebration and a bru-ha-ha ensued. The Rangers on the ice stuck up for their team mate. Again, while the Rangers ultimately lost the game something within the team clicked.
While I’d like to think that the team rallying together for Anisimov is the sole reason, I’m sure it’s only part of something. But after that game, they have now won 2 in a row. You may call it coincidence, I’ll call it the Anisimoving Effect.
