Why I Love Being A Rangers Fan: The Chelley Schoe Story

Rewind 20 years.

I was 13 years old, in middle school and had just discovered the beautiful sport of hockey.  Cue background story (http://twominutesinthepenaltybox.wordpress.com/2012/01/12/i-was-inspired-by-a-goalie/)…

Over those 20 years, I’ve witnessed a myriad of moments that I will forever remember.  I’ve swoon’d over many a player, and have been fascinated by attempting to copy the moves of guys like Messier, Bure and the like.  I may not have been a fan from birth, but I’m a fan nonetheless.

Being a Rangers’ fan can be amazing and annoying all at the same time.  They’re a wonderous team when they are working on all cylinders, but so very darn frustrating when they have a blown gasket. There have been times, I have thought about joining the ranks of the Maple Leafs fandom or the Winnipeg Jets fandom, but an inner guilt made me stay.  The thought of cheering on another team, especially when they play the Rangers, made me reconsider my decision.

But there are some other reasons why I LOVE being a Rangers fan…

  • The joys of being an ‘Original 6 Team’.  I don’t know why, but it makes being a Rangers’ fan that much better.  Anything original has got to be good, eh?
  • 1994. I don’t really think this needs any further explanation, and I’m sure 99.99999% of Rangers’ fans will agree with me.
  • Being able to witness players like Mark Messier, Brian Leetch, Mike Richter, and Wayne Gretzky play.  Often times I was able to witness this firsthand at a game.  Either way, TV or at a game, watching players such as them play (and at some times, all at the same time on the ice) was something that will always remain special in my little heart.
  • The recent emergence of the young’uns.  In all my years, I’ve never seen the Rangers stock up young talent like they have in the past few seasons.  Seeing guys in the system like Hagelin and Kreider make me excited for the years to come!

Those are a few of the reasons why I love being a Rangers fans, now share yours!
